Fox Tomb Restored
The Gardemau Church Charity (no. 230602) has recently paid for the restoration of the Fox chest tomb on the south side of the churchyard. The tomb had been in a poor state for years and had been roped off. The PCC could not afford the cost of repair and the structure had deteriorated to the point where it was dangerous and close to collapse. A skilled stonemason has rebuilt and stabilised the tomb, and also repaired the Gardemau monument in the church chancel and replaced some missing cornice on the pillars of the church arcade. For photos of the tomb’s restoration, please see the St Mary’s section of this website.
The Church Charity has also agreed to pay for the replacement of the mechanism of the church clock, which has kept very erratic time in recent years. We hope this work will be able to go ahead later this summer.
