Mid Suffolk District Council has commenced a Community Governance Review in all parts of the District.

The purpose of the review is to enable the Council to consider what changes are needed to parish arrangements. While a broad review, in simple terms this may affect the structure of Parish Councils, the extension/merging of new boundaries and the nature of community support.

The headline Terms of Reference for what is being referred to as the Notice of Community Governance Review Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 Local Government (Parish and Parish Councils) Regulations 2008 is seeking  to consider the;

• Creating, merging, altering or abolishing Parishes
• The naming of Parishes and the style of new Parishes
• The electoral arrangements for Parishes (the ordinary year of election; council size; the number of councillors to be elected to the council, and Parish warding)
• Grouping new or existing Parishes under a common Parish Council or de-grouping existing Parishes

Coddenham has in the last two years demonstrated community mobilisation and empowerment through collaboration and self help. Many member organisations of the Coddenham Community Response Group already engage beyond our natural Parish boundaries, This review presents opportunities, some may see potential for threat.

The Council is now conducting the first stage of consultation as part of the review process and is inviting residents and interested organisations to submit their views on the above issue.

MSDC welcomes representations from any residents and interested organisations who may wish to comment on the proposals in Coddenham Parish or on any aspect of the matters under review.
