The Suffolk Community Awards were announced last week and once again, CODDENHAM, received the award for the ‘The Most Active Village’.
The award made by Community Action Suffolk, Suffolk County Council and the Suffolk Association of Local Councils (SALC) recognises a village of under 1000, that work hard to keep their community active.
Last year awards were also received by The Coddenham Centre for the ‘Village of the Year’ and ‘Most Active Community’ for 2022 was given then by the Active Suffolk Awards.
It just shows that Coddenham is doing so much more for its community by working together!
The following citation was read by compere Rachel Sloane;
Coddenham is a village in Mid Suffolk with a population of just over 600 people, punching well above its weight in terms of supporting residents to be active and to stay active.
There is an extensive programme of activities offered through the Coddenham Centre including badminton, bowls, tennis, football and table tennis. But it’s not just activity for the sporty – Coddenham hosts dance, Pilates, cardio tennis, walking tennis, yoga for the over 50’s, has provided a free to use outdoor gym and is the home to the Suffolk School of Nordic Walking.
Local green spaces and footpaths are regarded as major assets by the majority of residents with many of them using them at least once a week. The village has developed a green space management plan with the aim of progressing, developing and protecting green spaces for the future.
Coddenham is Suffolk’s Most Active Village 2023.
The Village was represented at this year’s awards by Coddenham Community Response Group members, Councillor Nick Mills on behalf of the Coddenham Parish Council and Trustee Ray Collins on behalf of The Coddenham Centre.The award was presented by Cllr Bobby Bennett, Suffolk County Council Cabinet Member for Equality and Communities.
Well done All!
